Murray wins first title since Wimbledon 2013

Andy Murray has won his first ATP title since winning Wimbledon 14 months ago by beating Tommy Robredo in the inaugural Shenzen Open.

The world number eleven saved 5 match points in a tense second set before coming out victorious (5-7, 7-6, 6-1) in the new Chinese ATP tournament last week.

Since winning the 2013 All England Championships Murray has suffered from injury and back surgery but this win afforded the 27 year old with 250 ATP ranking points and approximately £66,000 prize money.

After the gruelling tussle in hot and humid conditions the Scot said “The conditions were so hard to play in. I got lucky basically at the end of the second set. I fought hard. I tried my best and thankfully managed to turn it around. But Tommy had a great tournament. He probably deserved to win the match today.”

Murray will now move into the top ten and is just 105 points behind Tomas Berdych who currently occupies the eighth and final berth at the end-of-season ATP World Tour Finals in London in November.

A further 1500 points is up for grabs at the Shanghai Masters and China Open in Beijing to break into the top eight.
