Britain’s Andy Murray and America’s Serena both won their second and sixth title respectively with relatively easy wins over Milos Raonic and Angelique Kerber.
Going into the Wimbledon Serbia’s Novak Dkokovic was the clear favourite but after his early and surprise exit Andy Murray became favourite and lived up to the tag with some fantastic tennis over the two weeks culminating in a relative easy final.
It is his second Wimbledon title and his third Grand Slam title, he also won the US Open, and he will go into the Rio Olympics full of confidence. It seems a masterstroke in reemploying Ivan Lendl again and their hard work has paid off in some style.
He will have a busy rest of the year with the Olympics, Davis cup commitments and the USA Open which starts in late August, an event in which he will be one of the favourites for the title.
Serena Williams, in winning the Ladies title, won her twenty second Grand Slam title of the year which has eluded her in her three previous Grand Slam finals. She put in an impressive performance and Kerber found it very hard to return Williams serve and her powerful ground shots.
Her twenty second Grand Slam puts her equal with Germany’s Steffi Graf and she will be confident of getting her twenty third when the US Open starts later this month at Flushing Meadows in New York.
