A few years ago, people were beginning to write off Roger Federer especially since Novak Djokovic was in such fine form and had beaten Federer in a couple of Wimbledon finals.
Since then Federer has burst back into life winning two Australian Open titles and one Wimbledon title and is favourite for this year’s title at the age of 36.
His main rivals will be the usual suspects such as Djokovic and Nadal who won the French Open for the eleventh time. Great Britain’s Andy Murray who has won Wimbledon has been plagued by injury for the last year or so and at this moment he is still unsure whether he will take part although has looked good in the matches he has played recently.
In the ladies tournament there has been some controversy this week in that Serena Williams, who has 23 Grand Slams, has been seeded 25 despite being 183 in the World rankings. She became a mother last year and of course hasn’t played many tournaments in the last year and Slovakia’s Dominka Cibulkova who is world number 32 has not been seeded which she is unhappy about.
Simona Halep is the number one seed in the ladies’ tournament whilst Federer is in the men’s.
