It only seems only like a few years ago when fresh faced Andy Murray began his tennis career but this week he won his 500th career match. He is the first British tennis player to do this and less than fifty players have passed this landmark since 1968, which is some feat for the Scottish born player. He is still a long way short of Roger Federer who has over one thousand wins.

He has had some great wins in his career; obviously his first Grand Slam won at the US Open in New York against Novak Djokovic in 2012 is right up there along with his first Wimbledon title won against the same player in 2013. He became the first British player in over seventy years to win the Wimbledon title, the previous British winner was Fred Perry in 1936.

He also won the Olympic Gold in London in 2012 when he defeated Roger Federer. This was sweet revenge for Andy as Roger had only beaten a matter of weeks earlier in the Wimbledon final.

He is still only twenty seven years old and should be at his peak and has recently climbed back up to number four in the world rankings and seems to have put his back problems behind him. The only thing is that his three great rivals are looking hungry to add to their Grand Slams. Roger Federer, who is in his thirties now, is still winning titles. Novak Djokovic won the Australian Open and Rafael Nadal is back to fitness now just in time for the French Open which he has won for a record nine times.

Andy has his marriage to Kim coming up in April; let’s hope this leads to more success on the tennis court too. Can’t quite see how he will be able to fit in a honeymoon in his hectic tennis schedule but that’s his problem!
