Williams Slams Wimbledon 2014 Rumours

Williams Quashes Wimbledon Drug and Alcohol Rumours

Serena Williams has slammed rumours behind her doubles capitulation in the Wimbledon Ladies Doubles of 2014.

Ahead of her opening singles match in the US Open Williams has quashed theories that drug and alcohol use were behind her breakdown at The All England Club plus very erratic performances throughout the season.

Following an opening Wimbledon Singles loss to Alize Cornet, Williams said that she had been in bed for three straight days  feeling dehydrated and dizzy and “sweating like crazy.” Playing partner and sister, Venus, had apparently urged her to withdraw from the doubles match but Serena tried to go through with it.

Struggling to hold on to the ball on Court One the world number one cried while being examined by medical staff.

“I have nothing to hide,” Williams told Sports Illustrated.

In her first comments about the episode, Williams also denied being pregnant saying she has seen every theory about her performance at Wimbledon but all being untrue.

“No, I didn’t take anything. If you want to ask me if I took drugs, I didn’t take drugs. I’m not on drugs. I’ve heard it all. I’m not pregnant; I wasn’t pregnant. Although I think a baby would be great, but there’s a time and place for everything. But no, I don’t do drugs. Never did ‘em. I’m scared of ‘em. I’m not on that stuff.”

Asked if she was drunk, Williams laughed and said “I wish.”

About the incident, Venus has said “I wanted her to put the racket away, but I tried not to be bossy,” .“She kept saying, ‘I want to try.’ She tricked me into letting her try”.
