The French Open starts on Monday, in Paris, in what is the second Grand Slam of the year. Rafael Nadal starts as the men’s favourite and he will be looking for his 10th crown.

One name missing from the men’s draw is Australian open champion Roger Federer who isn’t playing the clay court season and is saving himself for Wimbledon where he has won the title a record number of times.

After an injury plagued last couple of years Nadal has had a good start to 2018, being runner up in Melbourne and only losing one match on clay when he lost to Austrian player Dominic Thiem. He also won a masters title in Monte Carlo and won Barcelona without even dropping a set.

His main challengers will be world number one Andy Murray who has a difficult start to the year and with clay not being his favourite surface it would be a fine achievement for him to win his first French Open title. Novak Djokovic has also had a tough 12 months with no Grand Slams since winning at Roland Garros last year which was his first title there.

The Ladies tournament is very open this year and a number of ladies could lift the title on June 10th especially with Serena Williams not playing.

After the French Open the tour moves to England with the two main men’s tournaments being the Aegon Championships and Wimbledon.
